Updating an item from earlier today, Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman did in fact suffer a fractured wrist after being hit in the hand during Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
This will sideline Freeman for at least eight weeks. Though, injuries like this take longer to heal than what might originally be anticipated. As it is, Freeman will be out over the long term for a struggling Braves team.
From a fantasy perspective, this is devastating news.
Freeman has been sensational this season, hitting .341 with a league-leading 14 homers and 25 RBI on the year. With him out of the lineup, youngster Rio Ruiz was called up from Triple-A. He's expected to get the bulk of the action for Atlanta. Ruiz was hitting .262 with four homers and 16 RBI in Triple-A.
