The Miami Marlins were dealt some bad news on Tuesday with reports surfacing that veteran starter Edinson Volquez has a torn UCL that will require Tommy John Surgery. More than likely, this means the veteran will miss the duration of the 2017 season and all of the 2018 campaign.
Volquez, 34, was pitching to a 4-8 record with a 4.19 ERA and 1.42 WHIP prior to suffering the injury. Unfortunately for the Marlins, he's also under contract at $13 million for the 2018 season.
With Volquez sidelined, Vance Worley has taken his spot in the rotation. But that's nothing more than a short-term fix for Miami.
