Chicago White Sox All-Star first baseman Jose Abreu had to exit Wednesday's game against the Kansas City Royals with a hip injury. It happened with Abreu attempting to field a ground ball at first base. The initial diagnosis is that Abreu suffered a right hip flexer strain and is considered day-to-day.
Though, there'sa good chance here that Abreu will be placed on the 10-day disabled list. It's an injury that takes time to heal, and the White Sox are going to need another bat on their 25-man roster until the slugger is able to return.
Following the injury, Todd Frazier moved from third base to first base on with Tyler Saladino taking over at third. It wouldn't be a surprise to see this remain the case until Chicago's every-day first baseman returns to action.
Abreu entered Wednesday's action hitting .233 with zero homers and seven RBI. Maybe some rest will do him good after these early-season struggles.
