After the Milwaukee Brewers traded away shortstop Jean Segura, there was hope that it would mean Orlando Arcia, the Brewers' top prospect, would be given a shot to start in the big leagues on opening day.
But any hopes of that were put to rest on Friday when Brewers manager Craig Counsell announced Jonathan Villar would start at shortstop.
Villar, acquired form the Houston Astros this offseason, put up a respectable .284/.339/.414 triple-slash line alst season in the majors, contributing a base-running threat and utility player off the bench for the Astros.
Villar will rely on his ability to get on base, allowing him to show off his speed and put himself in scoring position for teammates.
Until Arcia is ready in the Brewers' eyes, Villar offers fantasy owners middle infield depth and stolen bases in deeper leagues.
