The Arizona Diamondbacks are off to a hot start this season, as they are 26-21 and tied for first place in the NL West. A huge part of their success has been first baseman Paul Goldschmidt as he has been swinging a hot bat lately.
He’s batting .316 with 12 homeruns and 36 RBI’s; very impressive numbers so far this year. His career numbers aren’t far off from his recent success, either. Last season he batted .286 with 20 homeruns and 82 RBI's. The most impressive stat of his this year is the homeruns as he is already at 12 and it’s only May. So, can the golden boy of Arizona continue his hot start to the season?
The DBacks will definitely need him to and he will. He’s improved every year and this season is no different. He only played in 48 games back in 2011 and within those games he hit eight longballs with 26 RBI's to go with a .250 average. He has good career numbers and will be able to continue his hot hitting.
The 20 homeruns he hit in 2012 was the most he’s hit in a single season in his young career, but it was also his first full season in the bigs. He’ll top his career high in homeruns and RBI's this season due to the fact that he already has a good amount and there is still four months left in the season. The average also has the potential to be higher than it was last season and is expected to improve as well.
Arizona is off to a great start this year, as they are tied for first in their division with the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies. Whether or not the Diamondbacks continue their success this season, Goldschmidt will. He’s developing into a very nice hitter with some pop at the plate. The 25-year-old has a bright future ahead of him and has been impressive thus far.
