Just hours before the waiver trade deadline, the Kansas City Royals continued to add to their roster by picking up veteran outfielder Jonny Gomes from the Atlanta Braves.
It may seem like a minor move in the grand scheme of things, but Gomes' postseason experience could prove to be valuable for the Royals as they prepare for a shot at winning their second consecutive American League pennant.
Gomes, a 13-year MLB vet, is hitting .223 with seven homers and 22 RBI's this season. He will likely back up at left field while taking late-inning at-bats against left-handed pitchers.
More than his presence on the field, Gomes is known around the baseball world as a leader. He's about as passionate as they get on the diamond, and will add yet another personality to a strong Royals locker room.
