The Los Angeles Angels have already moved on from veteran starting pitcher Tim Lincecum. The team designated the struggling 32-year-old former Cy Young winner for assignment on Saturday.
Linceum's comeback attempt was a disaster in Southern California. He was pitching to a 2-6 record with a 9.16 ERA and a ridiculous 2.37 WHIP in nine starts before being DFA'd.
This all but ends Lincecum's MLB career. He signed with the Angels back in May after working out for several teams in Arizona. The hope was that he'd be able to return to early-career form when he earned two Cy Young awards as a member of the San Francisco Giants. That obviously failed to come to fruition.
Los Angeles called up 26-year-old Dominican native Jose Valdez to take Lincecum's place on the 25-man roster. Valdez was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in a trade back in May. Though, he's solely been a reliever in his career. It's not yet known who will replace Lincecum in the rotation.
