Veteran Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher C.J. Wilson has been consistently reliable this year. The 11-year vet has posted a 8-8 record with a 3.89 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 21 starts.
Unfortunately for Wilson and the Angels, the starter will likely miss the remainder of the 2015 season after a MRI on Saturday revealed that bone spurs on his left elbow have expanded. The Angels had previously announced that Wilson, who is currently on the disabled list, had arthritis in the same elbow. Now that it appears Wilson will undergo surgery rather than put it off to the end of the year, it's likely he will be out for the stretch run.
The impact for Los Angeles is real here. Wilson has been a mainstay in the team's rotation, accumulating a 51-35 record with a 3.87 ERA since signing as a free agent prior to the 2012 season. The 34-year-old lefty will be missed big time as Los Angeles looks to hold off the surprising Houston Astros in the American League West.
