The Seattle Mariners will be without their ace pitcher for at least the next two weeks. The team placed Felix Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a strained right calf.
The DL designation was not retroactive, meaning Hernandez will miss two weeks of action at the minimum.
Hernandez, 30, was having another stellar season at the time of the injury. He boasts a 4-4 record with a 2.85 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 10 starts.
Replacing Hernandez in the rotation, the Mariners called up James Paxton from the Minors. He proceeded to give up eight runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings against the San Diego Padres, en route to a 14-6 loss for the Mariners.
