Updating a previous story, the Seattle Mariners have placed ace starter Felix Hernandez on the 10-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation. Hernandez lasted only two innings in Tuesday's start against the Detroit Tigers, yielding four runs and six hits while allowing eight runners to reach base.
It was the second consecutive poor start for Hernandez, who had yielded four runs and 10 hits in his previous outing.
Mariners manager Scott Servais indicated after Tuesday's game that Hernandez was being sent back to Seattle to meet with a doctor. The good news here is that his injury appears to be short term. The bad news? Those who own Hernandez in the fake baseball world will have to rely on someone else as he misses his next two starts.
Hernandez, 31, is pitching to a 2-2 record with a 4.72 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in four starts this season.
