The New York Mets will be without third baseman David Wright for the foreseeable future. New York announced on Friday that Wright will be shut down from baseball activities for 6-to-8 weeks with a herniated disc in his neck.
Wright's injury is worse than initially thought and his timetable for recovery could project to him being out for three months, his season would be in doubt if he ends up getting surgery. With Wright out, the Mets will be without their third baseman who was hitting .226 this season with seven home runs and a .350 on-base percentage.
With Wright out, Wilmer Flores and Ty Kelly figure to split games at third base. The injury comes at a time when New York already lost Lucas Duda to a serious injury and had to replace him with James Loney. The defending National League champions have not had the best injury luck this season.
