Making his first start since Friday, New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes aggravated the quad injury he was dealing with Wednesday night in the Bronx against the New York Yankees.
This prompted the Mets to place Cespedes on the 15-day disabled list after they had held off on doing just that in the days prior. The decision came after Cespedes started as the team's designated hitter in its 8-5 loss to the Yankees.
Cespedes, 30, is hitting .294 with 22 homers and 59 RBI while posting a solid .367 on-base percentage and .923 OPS.
The Mets recalled top prospect Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A after placing Cespedes on the DL. Interestingly, Nimmo was headed to the Cincinnati Reds in the Jay Bruce deal on Monday before issues with his medicals came to the surface. It will be interesting to see how the former first-round pick responds to regular playing time in Queens.
