Fantasy owners and Minnesota Twins fans were taken through an emotional roller coaster on Saturday morning. What first appeared to be a routine day of rest for Brian Dozier, turned into much more.
Not long after it was reported Dozier would not start on Saturday, we learned the star second baseman was scratched with knee soreness and was headed for an MRI. It marked a troublesome sign for one of the best at his position who was off to an excellent start this season with a major-league leading five stolen bases and a very productive .275 batting average with six runs scored.
But the concern was wiped away only a short time later when Twins GM Derek Falvey revealed the team already received results back from Dozier's MRI and the tests were clean. Dozier has a knee contusion, but he is available off the bench on Saturday and should return in the next few days.
Eduardo Escobar takes his spot defensively and will bat sixth in Minnesota's lineup. Facing lefty Jose Quintana favors Escobar's career splits as he has performed well against southpaws over his career with a .278 batting average and 105 wRC+. But given Quintana's status as an upper echelon pitcher, we can avoid Escobar as a value infielder for DFS today.
