MLB Young Talent Dominating: A Sign of things to Come?

MLB Young Talent Dominating: A Sign of things to Come?

The 2013 season has had loads of storylines so far, but one of the most compelling of all has to be the appearance of the New York Mets' youngster, Matt Harvey. Harvey is just one of a handful of young pitchers who are dominating their craft. The Cy-Young winner Clayton Kershaw, who has the nastiest curveball in all of baseball is only 23 years old! The fact that these young pitchers have so much control and poise on the bump is scary and impressive. It is almost not fair for batters to have to face such filthy pitches.

This is exciting as the future looks like it will be filled with young flame throwers. All eyes on you, Aroldis Chapman. If you think about all the young great pitching most would assume that bats would go completely silent and for the most part that has been true. You can’t look at it as only good young pitching though. We have to remember that there is still a lot of young talented hitters that are taking the majors by storm. Mike Trout, Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are all youngsters who look way more patient than 20 year olds normally look.

What I have gotten out of all of this is that baseball is evolving. It used to be that a player would come up around 23 or 24 but now they are coming up at ridiculously young ages. All this means for baseball is that the game is going to get faster and with such great pitching, the game of small ball may play a more pivotal role than ever. Who knows if Harvey can keep this up for the entire season, but boy it is going to be fun to watch. As we evolve the game of baseball does as well. Soon enough, baseball will be America's favorite pastime once again.
