Soon, the New York Mets will purchase TNT's old slogan "We know drama", because it certainly seems to fit the Mets this season. In a season that seemingly never stops with headlines, the Mets have made one more with the suspension of Matt Harvey for a violation of team rules.
Harvey, who was scheduled to start on Sunday against the Miami Marlins, now will miss Sunday's start and be away from the team for three days. In his place, New York called up Adam Wilk to make the start today. To clear a roster spot for him, the team transferred Noah Syndergaard from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
While we don't know what team rule(s) Harvey violated, his performance on the mound certainly wasn't enough to where the Mets might have looked past the violation for a pitcher who excelled on the mound. In six starts this season, Harvey holds a 5.14 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and just a 20/13 K/BB ratio.
Wilk hasn't pitched at the major league level since 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels. The 29-year-old had a 5.91 ERA and 1.41 WHIP as a starter for Triple-A Las Vegas this season, so needless to say he is off the fantasy radar.
Just in case you're wondering, Harvey was not suspended for THAT.
