Despite being in first place in the National League East and attempting to hold off the Washington Nationals, the New York Mets are doing their best to keep ace starter Matt Harvey fresh.
Well over a year removed from undergoing Tommy John Surgery, the team is still taking a cautious approach with its franchise starter. Harvey's spot in the rotation on Sunday will be skipped. Instead, the Mets will start Logan Verrett against the Colorado Rockies.
Mets manager Terry Collins did indicate that this will be the only time Harvey's spot will be skipped. Though, it's definitely something to keep an eye on. With a ton of talented arms and attempting to keep each pitcher fresh, there's a chance the Mets will go to a six-man rotation over the final full month of the season.
Harvey is 11-7 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 23 starts this year.
