It's not an earth-shattering move for the New York Yankees, but the team did acquire veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks from the Minnesota Twins for catcher John Ryan Murphy on Wednesday.
Hicks, a first-round pick of the Twins back in 2008, is coming off a season that saw him hit .256 with 11 homers, 33 RBI's and 13 stolen bases.
With depth behind the plate, it makes sense that the Yankees would move a player in Murphy that has shown some nice progression from an offensive point of view.
The larger question here is whether this signals the end of Brett Gardner's career in pinstripes. The Yankees have reportedly been engaged in trade conversations with the Seattle Mariners regarding the left fielder — a position Hicks can play without much of an issue.
Though, this could be more of a depth acquisition for the Yankees. By trading away a player at a position of strength, the team acquires a switch-hitter that could potentially spell both Gardner and center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
