The New York Yankees are off to a hot start at 17-9 as they head into Wrigley Field. With young outfielder Aaron Judge putting on an incredible power display , a hot Starlin Castro and the return of Didi Gregorius, New York's lineup is set to get even better.
On Friday, New York activated Gary Sanchez off the disabled list after he missed just under a month with a strained right biceps, but now is ready to return to the lineup and add another powerful bat to this Yankees' lineup.
The 24-year-old catcher crushed it in a brief minor league rehab assignment in Triple-A. In 13 at bats, Sanchez collected five hits, including two doubles and a home run. After a successful batting practice back with the Yankees, he traveled with the team to Chicago and will be in the lineup on Friday afternoon.
With Sanchez's return, fantasy owners hope they see the return of the slugging backstop who bashed 20 home runs and 12 doubles with a 1.032 OPS and .299/.376/.657 slash line. Sanchez was off to a slow start this season with just three hits in 20 at bats and just one home run, but hopefully we'll see the power now that he's back and performed well on a brief rehab assignment.
It's worth noting that fantasy owners would be wise to not expect a batting average near .290 again, Sanchez never profiled as an above average hitter. But he can give you 20-plus home runs with lots of walks and that makes him an elite fantasy catcher.
