The struggles we have seen from New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard in recent starts might now have an explanation. The second-year pitcher has given up eight runs over his past two starts after yielding a total of seven earned runs in his previous eight starts.
The latest example of Syndergaard's struggles came in a start against the Washington Nationals on Monday when he gave up five earned in just three innings of work.
Now, according to Marc Carig of Newsday, the youngster has been pitching with a bone spur in his elbow.
Until this issue is resolved, you would be smart to avoid the 23-year-old Syndergaard in DFS contests. There's just too much lack of recent success coupled with previous pitchers having similar issues to rely on him.
Though, one thing is for sure. Once the starter is healthy, he'll be back among the top daily options in baseball. Despite recent struggles, he's posted an 8-3 record with a 2.49 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 11 strikeouts per nine innings thus far this season. These numbers have him as the ninth-best fantasy starting pitcher in baseball.
