It seems to be an unlikely pairing for the first somewhat major free-agent contract of the MLB offseason, but it could work out swimmingly for both sides. 

The Oakland Athletics have reportedly signed veteran pitcher Rich Hill to a one-year, $6 million contract. 

Hill, 35, has been a journeyman pitcher since recording 11 wins with the Chicago Cubs back in 2007. Seeing stints with five different teams during that span, Hill found himself primarily out of the Majors over the past two seasons. 

Though, the hard-throwing lefty put up a solid final month for the Boston Red Sox this past season, recording a 2-1 record with a 1.55 ERA and 0.66 WHIP in four starts. This came on the heels of him posting a 5-4 record between both the Red Sox and Washington Nationals organizations. 

Hill apparently turned down larger offers from other teams in order to guarantee himself a spot in the A's rotation for 2016. That's was likely magnified by the fact that he's going to be playing half his games in a pitcher-friendly ballpark. 

If Hill can come anywhere near the late-season success we saw this year, the $6 million Oakland paid him will be a bargain.
