When the Boston Red Sox placed third baseman Pablo Sandoval on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury, many assumed it was a phantom injury used by the team to just get him off the active roster. But now as more information comes out and Sandoval goes to visit Dr. James Andrews, it has become clear there could be a serious issue with Sandoval's shoulder.
Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski acknowledged on Friday that Sandoval has a serious ailment and depending on what Dr.Andrews rules, Sandoval could be headed for shoulder surgery. While it is still uncertain and would depend on what type of surgery Sandoval would have, if he even needs it, right now he is looking at an extended absence on the disabled list
Things have just seemingly gotten worse every month since Sandoval signed a five-year, $95 million contract with the Red Sox last offseason. He hit a career worst .245 with a .292 on-base percentage and only 10 home runs. After talk of him losing weight in the offseason, he showed up to spring training just as heavy as he exited.
The trade rumors of Sandoval being shipped to San Diego have died. While Boston was and continues to be a terrible fit for Sandoval's personality and what he can handle, he is stuck with the franchise and now out for the foreseeable future.
