In what shouldn't be considered too much of a surprise, the Philadelphia Phillies have named veteran Jeremy Hellickson their opening day starter.
Hellickson, 29, re-signed with the team this winter after posting the best performance of an otherwise pedestrian career. Last season saw him put up a 12-10 record with a 3.71 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32 starts. He also struck out a solid 154 batters in 189 innings.
With the team's young rotation, this shouldn't be seen as a surprise. The remainder of Philly's starting five should include Aaron Nola, Clay Buchholz, Jared Eickhoff and Vincent Velasquez.
Look for Hellickson to remain a solid fantasy-relevant option on an otherwise unproven Phillies team. It just remains to be seen whether he'll get the run support to be considered a top-end option.
