The Philadelphia Phillies placed starting 2B Cesar Hernandez on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with a left oblique strain. He suffered the injury on Friday and was out of the lineup on Saturday. The move is retroactive to June 10th, but the expectation is that Hernandez will be out until late June.
After putting up a tremendous 2016 season, Hernandez has regressed back to the mean in 2017. He's hitting .277 with five homers, 14 RBI and a tremendous 40 runs scored this far on the season. That came on the heels of Hernandez posting a .294 average with a league-leading 11 triples last season.
With Hernandez out of action, Howie Kendrick will take over regular duties at second base. The utilityman has pretty much been relegated to starting in the outfield in his first go-around with Philadelphia, but Kendrick is hitting at a solid .333 clip in 75 at-bats this season.
