The Cincinnati Reds young arms have shown plenty of promise to begin the season. So when out of the gate on Saturday Brandon Finnegan walked three of the first four batters he faced, something looked off. Sure enough, the Reds pulled him from the game after the first inning with what the team called a strained left lat muscle.
Before his exit, Finnegan allowed two runs on three walks and a hit in the first inning before his exit. Cincinnati obviously played it smart with their young starter and will be cautious with him going forward.
Finnegan's long-term status isn't yet known, but it seems likely he will miss his next start. Across 10 innings this season, the young lefty allowed six hits, three earned runs and held a 13/6 K/BB ratio. Saturday's short appearance and injury inflated what were strong numbers to start the season.
