After signing Zack Greinke to a massive six-year, $206 million contract earlier this month, the Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly acquired one of the hottest pitchers on the trade market.
Multiple reports indicate that the Atlanta Braves have traded Shelby Miller to the desert for a package of players including the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, Dansby Swanson.
Miller, 25, was acquired from Atlanta in the deal for Jason Heyward last offseason. He proceeded to post a 3.28 ERA in 33 starts despite losing 17 of his 23 decisions. A front end of the rotation type, Miller joins Greinke to form a solid one-two punch in Arizona. Add in Patrick Corbin, and Arizona might have one of the best rotations in the game.
For the Braves, it's all about building for the future — something the team has done for a while now.
Swanson, 21, projects as a plus-level bat from the shortstop position. He's ways away from the Majors, but was a coup for any team to acquire in a trade of this magnitude.
Atlanta also picked up an outfielder in Ender Inciarte who it can slot in immediately as a starter this upcoming season. Inciarte hit .303 with six homers and 45 RBI's as well as 21 stolen bases last year. At 25, his ceiling is still incredibly high.
Also heading to the Braves in the deal is a young right handed starter in Aaron Blair who posted a 13-5 ERA with a 2.92 ERA and 1.17 WHIP between two stops, including Triple-A Reno. Blair was Arizona's second-ranked prospect heading into the 2015 season. He figures to have a spot in Atlanta's rotation in 2016.
