Offseason champions in most pro sports often never live up to the hype when the regular season rolls around. After the Arizona Diamondbacks traded the top of their farm system for Shelby Miller then signed Zack Greinke to a seven-year, mega deal, many considered Arizona to be a top dog in the National League and a World Series Contender.

But things fell off the tracks quickly and with Miller now making his starts in Triple-A Reno, Greinke on the disabled list and Arizona 15 games under .500, it appears changes might be coming.

Ken Rosenthal reported on Friday that discussions are taking place amongst Arizona's front office officials, including CBO Tony La Russa, about the possibility of firing manager Chip Hale. In two seasons as the Diamondbacks' manager, Hale owns a 117-135 record.

Arizona has already started to cut the cord on this season; they traded Brad Ziegler last week and they could be a seller as the trade deadline approaches. Rosenthal also added that Arizona would turn to Phil Nevin, Arizona's Triple-A manager, if they opt to fire Hale.
