Report: Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre could be Activated on Monday

In the midst of a disappointing start to the season where the only news the Texas Rangers ever seemed to receive was bad news, it appears the team finally received some good news on Sunday. The Dallas Morning News reported on Sunday morning that third baseman Adrian Beltre is returning to the team's facilities on Monday and there is optimism he could be activated off the disabled list before Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Beltre, who has missed the first two months of the season with a strained right calf, played three extended spring training games and has come away with positive reports that will lead to a re-check before a potential activation off the disabled list. When the 38-year-old third baseman makes his return, he'll immediately slide back into the hot corner and in the middle of the Rangers' lineup. As a result, Joey Gallo will likely shift into left field.

In his brief tine in extended spring training, Beltre went 7 for 17 at the plate. He will join a team that desperately needs him in so many ways. Not only have the Rangers lost five straight games as of Sunday morning with a 24-26 record, but a potential potent lineup many saw before the season opened instead is middle of the pack. Texas needs that middle of the order veteran who can provide the ability to drive in runs with a solid average and productive power.

From a fantasy perspective, Beltre is worth an immediate add to your team if he's available in your leagues. While he may not come close to the 32 home runs he blasted as a 37-year-old in 2016, Beltre still offers enough pop that when paired with that stadium and other American league Parks, could put him around 15 over the rest of the season with RBIs and a.280-plus batting average.

For fantasy owners with Gallo, he'll now likely see frequent starts in left field and gain outfield eligibility in fantasy leagues. Delino DeSheilds Jr. likely takes the biggest hit with no place to play when Carlos Gomez returns.
