St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Relevant Injury Updates

They might not be the New York Mets, who has seen essentially half their team land on the DL, but the St. Louis Cardinals have been dealing with some rather serious injuries through the first month-plus of the season.

The good news her is that things seem to be coming to a head with some of these injuries. Let's break them down really quick from a fantasy perspective.

Reliever Tyler Lyons Close to Returing

This is good news for the Cardinals' rotation. Out since early May with a right intercostal strain, Lyons will make one more rehab start in Triple-A Memphis and be activated to return to the big league club.

Lyons appeared in 30 games (10 starts) for the Cardinals last season, posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in the process. A starter by trade, Lyons will man the Cardinals' long relief role with no openings in the team's rotation.

Stephen Piscotty to Return from DL Friday

Piscotty has been out of action since May 5 with a right hamstring strain. He was expected to be out until late May, but appears to be ready to return here soon. Expectations are that Piscotty will be activated from the DL in order to start on Friday.

The outfielder struggled out of the gate, hitting at a .241 clip with two homers and 11 RBI. Remember, he broke out big time last season, posting a .273 average with 22 homers and 85 RBI. He remains a rosterable option in fantasy leagues.

Jhonny Peralta  Will Also be Activated Friday

Having played in a total of 90 games since the end of the 2015 season, Peralta is nothing more than a waiver-wire option should he prove to be healthy and productive. The veteran has missed all but eight games this season due to multiple injuries, including a recent illness.

When on the field, Peralta has proven to be a stabilizing force. Remember, he put up 38 homers and 146 RBI combined in 2014 and 2015 before an injury-plagued 2016 campaign. Peralta is expected to be activated from the DL on Friday.
