Just weeks before Spring Training is set to kick off, the Detroit Tigers just made a huge signing on the free-agent market, agreeing on a six-year deal with outfielder Justin Upton.
The deal is reported to be worth a whopping $132.75 million over six years.
Jones, 28, earned an All-Star nod in his only season with the San Diego Padres last season. He hit .251 with 26 homers, 81 RBI's and 19 stolen bases.
He's hit 20-plus homers in each of the past three seasons. Though, his .336 on-base percentage this past season was the worst of his career.
It's an alarmingly high contract for someone signed in mid January. It also represents just how robust the outfield market remains this late into the offseason.
