The catcher position has not been known for its offensive production in recent years, but you do have a little bit of potential in this small group of free agents. Guys like Avila, Navarro, and Soto still have a little bit left in their bats. While the production you get from these guys isn’t anything spectacular it is good enough if the rest of the batters in the lineup are good.
A lot of these hitters will actually make good backups with their sold skills behind the plate. Soto has a career .992 fielding percentage, and has thrown out 28 percent of attempted base stealers.
While none of theses catchers are going to be the center piece behind a championship team they can certainly be instrumental in helping a team win.
