Major League Baseball's transition from the 15-day disabled list to the 10-day disabled list this season opened the door for teams to be more cautious with players. We've seen it with Buster Posey, Trea Turner and Jean Segura, now a new name could join the ranks.
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson is headed to the 10-day DL after he aggravated a right calf injury he first sustained in spring training. Donaldson pulled up after an RBI double on Thursday night and called for the trainers, then the team immediately pulled him from the game.
With Donaldson out for at least the next week and a half, fantasy owners can expect to see a lot of Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins. Two hitters with a sub-.260 batting average across their careers, far from the type of targets we would be looking to pick up off the waiver wire or start as value plays in the DFS games.
Donaldson's absence from Toronto's lineup will make it an easier matchup for opposing starting pitchers. A lineup that once had Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion, Troy Tulowitzki and Jose Bautista, will now rely on Bautista, Tulo and Kendrys Morales. So don't be afraid to roll the dice on some starting pitchers on DraftKings or FanDuel when they face the Blue Jays.
