To update a previous item, Los Angeles Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw is now expected to miss 4-6 weeks after exiting Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves with a back injury.
Immediately after the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that Kershaw would be placed on the 10-day disabled list. Then, on Monday, indications were that Kershaw will miss at least a month of action. There's no official timetable for a return until Kershaw meets with Dr. Robert Watkins this week.
The positive news here is that this doesn't seem to be as serious as the herniated disc injury that cost Kershaw two months of the 2016 campaign.
Though, from a fantasy perspective, it sure does hurt those looking to make it into the playoffs. If we're looking at a six-week recovery time, that pushes Kershaw's return to September.
