What a World Series we have experienced up to this point! One game ends with a controversial play at the plate. Another game ends with a pickoff which was the first time in World Series history that a game ended in such fashion. Game six will be just as exciting and we could see the Boston Red Sox take home the title.
The St. Louis Cardinals have had superb pitching all season especially from their younger guys who have stepped up big. They will have another young blood taking the field in game six with 22 year-old Michael Wacha. He has pitched great in the postseason with four starts and four wins. He has an ERA of 1.00 over these four games to go with 28 strikeouts over 27 innings pitched. In his one start against the Red Sox in the World Series he pitched six innings allowing two earned runs and picking up the win. This is the biggest game Wacha has ever pitched in, in his entire life. Can the 22 year-old handle the pressures of an elimination game at Fenway Park?
The Red Sox will have John Lackey taking the bump. His playoff numbers are 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA. He has not pitched poorly in the playoffs but he hasn’t dazzled us either. He has won a World Series before as he was the starting pitcher when the Los Angeles Angels won it in 2002 if that holds any merit to you. Lackey is set up perfectly to close this series out. He’s pitching at home, he’s a veteran and he has what it takes to put the Sox into the promise land.
When it comes to the bats you know exactly who I am going to talk about. Mr. October himself, David Ortiz. Over his 15 at-bats in the World Series he has recorded 11 hits and four walks. This guy is completely dominating every and any pitch that is being thrown at him. He has stepped up time and time again and he will indeed be the reason the Red Sox take home the World Series Wednesday night.
