On Friday, the New York Yankees announced they were bringing up one of their top hitting prospects to help provide more meat to a lineup that is 24th in runs scored and without two of their top hitters in Alex Rodriguez and Jacoby Ellsbury
Sanchez entered the season as the Yankees' No.3 overall prospect by MLB.com and No.2 by Baseball America. This season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Sanchez has put his power on display with five home runs and 11 doubles over 27 games.
While Sanchez has largely been a power-focused prospect, his defense behind the plate has improved over the years and helped him stay behind the dish as he has grown up the minor-league ladder. Power is still his most attention-grabbing tool, which should play nicely at Yankee Stadium.
Playing time may be a little tougher to come by, depending on how long Sanchez stays in New York. Rodriguez is expected back in a week, which would take away any remaining opportunities to be the Yankees' designated hitter. Meanwhile, Sanchez is currently the third catcher on the Yankees' 25-man roster, behind Austin Romine as Brian McCann's back up.
