In what could be some huge fantasy-relevant news, the New York Yankees have officially named youngster Greg Bird the team's starting first baseman heading into the regular season.
This shouldn't be considered too much of a surprise considering Bird's upside and the fact that he's dominated to the tune of a .421 average thus far during the spring. Though, it was put into question a tad when New York signed reigning NL Chris Carter last month.
Bird, 25, will likely be slotted either fifth or sixth in the Yankees' lineup. He did not play in the Majors last season after suffering an injury, but has the pop to be a solid under-the-radar fantasy option. Back in 2015, the former fifth-round pick put up 11 homers in 157 at-bats for the Yankees.
He joins a high-upside young lineup that includes Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge. All three are definitely worth keeping an eye on for the rebuilding and talented Yanks.
