Alistair Overeem: ‘If I Lose to Frank Mir, I Better Start Doing Something Else’

Former Strikeforce and K-1 champion Alistair Overeem has been a big disappoint in recent memory, with just a 1-2 record inside the Octagon and currently the victim of back-to-back knockouts.

Nevertheless, the UFC is giving the hulking heavyweight one more chance to prove he wasn’t mostly hype, matching him up with an ex-UFC heavyweight champ in Frank Mir for UFC 167 on November 16.

In an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour on Monday, “The Demolition Man” expressed that he knows he is in a must-win situation.

"I am telling you this, if I lose to Frank Mir, I better start doing something else, because I can't lose three fights in a row,” Overeem said.

“If I lose to him, that's three in a row so I better start doing something else because that's definitely not good. I still would like to fight a couple of years, so, that being said, I'm not going to retire (should he lose to Mir). Frank Mir, I just need to beat this guy."

In all fairness, Mir is in a worst spot that Overeem heading into their pay-per-view matchup, as he has lost three in a row.

However, the submission specialists has the most fights in UFC history (21) and his losses came to three competitors that could all arguably be ranked inside the top 5 of the division.

Still, fans and analysts alike are calling Mir vs. Overeem an unofficial loser leaves town match and one of the fighters has already addressed that may very well be the reality of this situation.
