Anderson Silva Has No Interest in Rematch with Vitor Belfort

If it was solely up to him, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva would close the door on a rematch with perennial contender Vitor Belfort.

When asked by Combate.com (translation via Mixedmartialarts.com) what he thought about a potential rematch with “The Phenom,” Silva made it very clear he isn’t interested.

“What was supposed to be done was done. Of course, we are employees of the UFC, but I don’t like to fight against Brazilians. I don’t see that possibility,” he said.

The two hard-hitting Brazilians squared off back at UFC 126 in February 2011, with “The Spider” knocking out Belfort in the first round with a perfectly timed front kick.

Belfort has since rattled off a 4-1 record inside the Octagon, with his sole loss being a short notice title fight with light heavyweight champ Jon Jones at UFC 152 in September.

The Blackzilian team member is currently ranked the number 2 middleweight in the world, according to the UFC’s official rankings.

As he waits for the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Silva II, which doesn’t take place until UFC 168 in December, Belfort has shot down fights with Strikeforce import Tim Kennedy and former UFC light heavyweight titleholder Lyoto Machida.

According to a report by UFC Tonight, it looks like Belfort will attempt to avenge another loss, as he is tentatively scheduled to rematch Dan Henderson at a November 9 event in Brazil.

Henderson and Belfort fought all the way back in October 2006 under the Pride banner, with “Hendo” winning a convincing decision.

That matchup was contested at 205-pounds, though it remains up in the air if Henderson-Belfort II will be a middleweight, light heavyweight or catchweight bout.
