Barao vs. Wineland Headlines UFC 161, Silva vs. Weidman Official for UFC 162

The UFC’s summer schedule has just added two new potentially exciting title fights to their summer schedule.

UFC interim bantamweight title holder Renan Barao looks to extend his unbeaten streak to 32 fights in a row when he defends his belt against a former WEC 135-pound champ in Eddie Wineland.

ESPN was the first media outlet to report the June 15 title fight, which takes place at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Barao won the title from another former WEC champ, Urijah Faber, at UFC 149 in July and made his first successful title defense against Michael McDonald at UFC on FUEL 7 last month.

Wineland had a rocky start to his UFC career, losing decision to Faber and his Team Alpha Male teammate Joseph Benavidez.

However, the 28-year-old has rebounded with a “Fight of the Night” winning knockout of Scott Jorgensen at UFC on FX 3 in June and a split decision win over rising contender Brad Pickett at UFC 155 in December.

In what could be one of the biggest UFC fights of the year, Anderson Silva looks to make his 11th successful title defense against Chris Weidman at UFC 162. The event is scheduled for July 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Weidman is a perfect 9-0 as a professional mixed martial artist, though a shoulder injury has kept him on the shelf for months. His last fight was a stunning knockout of fellow contender Mark Munoz at UFC on FUEL 4 in July.

Meanwhile, Silva has not defended his title since defeating archnemesis Chael Sonnen for a second time at UFC 148, which also took place in July.

However, the dominant champion did take a light heavyweight fight against the original “Ultimate Fighter” runner-up, Stephan Bonnar, at UFC 153 in October. He easily scored a TKO victory over “The American Psycho” late in the first round.
