Bellator 131: Tito Ortiz Bests Stephan Bonnar, Ortiz Fined for Post-Fight Antics

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz outstruck and outwrestled Stephan Bonnar at Bellator 131 Saturday night, though his post-fight antics cost him $2,500.

In the main event of the evening, Ortiz, 39, and Bonnar, 37, both looked well past their prime, but Ortiz clearly hit harder and put still put together smoother combinations.

“The American Psycho” was a bloody mess just minutes into the fight and things got worse before they got better, as his defense got sloppier as he began to tire later in the fight.

While Bonnar certainly landed plenty of clean shots, he was unable to hurt or stun the self-proclaimed “People’s Champion” and looked like a fish out of water on the ground – despite being a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

The two UFC Hall of Famers put together a mostly lackluster affair, which one of the judges inexplicably scored 29-28 for Bonnar, causing Ortiz to win via a split decision.

After the contest ended, Ortiz flipped Bonnar the double bird, also throwing water at his adversary after the scorecards were read.

While the San Diego, California crowd found the post-fight antics amusing, the California State Athletic Commission did not, according to Sherdog’s C.J. Tuttle.

Ortiz reportedly took home a hefty $300,000 for his efforts, so he can certainly afford the sanction.
