Bellator Inks Deals with Fight Veterans Paul Daley, Melvin Manhoef

Bellator MMA has reached deals with two of the most well-known welterweights outside of the UFC roster on Monday.

Heavy-hitting 170 pounders Paul “Semtex” Daley and Melvin “No Mercy” have come to terms with the promotion, according to a press release sent to various media outlets – including eDraft.

“Like always, I’m coming into Bellator to put on a show,” Daley said in a prepared statement.

“I loved working for (Scott) Coker back in Strikeforce, and when I got the call to possibly come back to Bellator, it was a no-brainer. I feel great, I’m fresh, and I’m going after that belt.”

Daley previously fought for Bellator in July 2012, scoring an easy round 1 TKO over journeyman Rudy Bears.

He was subsequently released from the promotion a few weeks later after they learned of criminal charges related to an alleged bar fight in his native England.

At the time, Bellator was run by CEO Bjorn Rebney, but he was replaced by former Strikeforce Founder/CEO Scott Coker one month ago.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We want Bellator to be a destination for not only the top-tier fighters in the sport, but the first-choice destination for fans to see the most entertaining fights in the sport,” Coker said in the release.

“Both Paul and Melvin add a level of excitement to the roster that I can’t wait to see inside our cage, and this is just the beginning.”

As for Manhoef, the highly-regarded striker is 4-2(1) since March 2012 after losing three fights in a row between January 2010 and March 2011.

In 28 career victories, the former kickboxer has scored 26 wins via knockout and has went to the judges scorecards just three times in 41 trips inside the cage.

Most recently, Manhoef won the Gringo Super Fight Welterweight Title when he decimated Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in April, a rematch from February 2006 which he also won via knockout.

Additionally, Daley has won five of his past six fights and is still awaiting a matchup for 2014.
