Bellator President Scott Coker Confirms Ongoing Negotiations with Gina Carano

Hopefully UFC President Dana White doesn’t mind some healthy competition when it comes to signing free agent women’s MMA pioneer Gina Carano.

Bellator President Scott Coker revealed that his company has reach out to Carano’s camp in hopes of adding her to the roster during an appearance on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour (transcription per MMA Mania).

"We've had one conversation with Brent and Scott and that was it. It was just one quick conversation and there was nothing really made of it. I think that Gina really wants to fight at 135,” Coker explained.

"We don't have a 135 division and I can't say what (Carano) is going to do because she's got film commitments and she is very busy and has a good acting career. It's going to be up to her and her schedule."

Carano hasn’t fought in five years – when she suffered the only loss of her career in a Strikeforce women’s featherweight title bout against Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino.

As Coker noted, she has focused on the silver screen since then, starring in films such as “Haywire,” “Fast and Furious 6” and “In the Blood.”

Both White and UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey have recently expressed an interest in having Carano fight for her belt in December, but that ship appears to have sailed at this point.

Coker has a prior business relationship with Carano, as he was the Strikeforce founder and CEO and featured Carano in the first mainstream women’s MMA bout back in December 2006.

Is Carano’s return to the cage even a sure thing at this point? And if it is, would Bellator be able to shock the world and nab Carano over the UFC?
