Two perennial welterweight contenders will face off at the end of the summer to see who is a legitimate title threat.
FOXSports.com reported Friday evening that Carlos Condit will be rematching Martin Kampmann at UFC on Fox Sports 1: 2, set to take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 28.
After winning eight straight fights, “The Natural Born Killer” had his Octagon debut spoiled by Kampmann back in April 2009, losing a razor-thin split decision.
After winning the vacant interim UFC welterweight strap against Nick Diaz at UFC 143 in February of last year, Condit has dropped back-to-back fights to champion Georges St-Pierre and upcoming title challenger Johny Hendricks.
Meanwhile, “The Hitman” had built a lot of momentum going after wins over Rick Story, Thiago Alves and Jake Ellenberger, but he could not overcome the heavy hands of the aforementioned Hendricks.
Hendricks scored a 46-second KO over Kampmann at UC 154 in November, with the Danish kickboxer/submission expert remaining on the sidelines since then.
Kampmann is just 3-3 in his past six bouts; however, his decision losses to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez were widely criticized by fans and analysts alike.
Will the ultra-aggressive Condit be able to capitalize on another notoriously slow start from Kampmann or will The Hitman weather another early storm before scoring another come from behind victory?
