Top-10 UFC middleweight C.B. Dollaway is calling for a title shot with a win over ex-light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 58 next month.
During last week’s appearance on Inside MMA, Dollaway said he should have nothing else to prove at 185 pounds with a victory over “The Dragon.”
"[With] the Tim Boetsch fight, which I think I won (Dollaway lost via controversial split-decision), that'd be three victories over top-ten opponents," Dollaway explained.
"So I believe I'm starting to make a little bit of an argument for a title fight myself with a victory over Lyoto. I believe he's the only thing standing in my way."
With Luke Rockhold steamrolling Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 56 on Saturday, rumors have already circulated that the winner of Dollaway-Machida will face the former Strikeforce champ.
However, Dollaway isn’t interested in that.
“I'm hearing this talk on the internet about the winner of us would fight Luke Rockhold, but I would rather go right to Chris Weidman and I believe I've earned it."
A win over Machida would give Dollaway three victories in a row, as well as getting his hand raised in five of his past six fights.
Of course, a win over the revered Brazilian striker is no given, as he recently battled Weidman in a five-round classic at UFC 175 in July.
Prior to the loss, Machida scored quality wins over Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi at 185 pounds.
