Chael Sonnen: I May Ask Anderson Silva to Coach with Me on TUF Brazil 3

The UFC’s quintessential silver-tongued superstar, Chael Sonnen, is gearing up to coach season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil opposite arch nemesis Wanderlei Silva.

Seemingly born with a special niche for finding ways to steal headlines, “The American Gangster” dropped a bombshell during an interview with Whoa! TV.

“Who knows, I may reach out to Anderson (Silva) and see if he wants to be on the coaching staff (of TUF Brasil 3) with me,” Sonnen said.

Sonnen’s feud with Brazilian fighters, and really the whole country in general, began prior to his first middleweight championship fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117 in August 2010.

Despite being a heavy underdog, the former two-time All-American collegiate wrestler assured fans he was going to bully “The Spider” around the cage and walk away with the belt.

While Anderson managed to throw up a Hail Mary submission and tap Sonnen mid-way through the fifth and final round, Sonnen lived up to his word to some extent by taking down and beating up Silva for over 22 minutes.

In their heavily anticipated rematch at UFC 148 last July, Sonnen comfortably won the opening frame before getting TKO’ed in the second round.

During his post-fight interview, Silva indicated that the bad blood with Sonnen was in the past now, even inviting his long-time American rival to a barbeque at his house.

Making the situation even more intriguing is that in the same interview, Sonnen, who has competed at light heavyweight since the second loss to the Brazilian legend, stated he is eyeing a third bout with Anderson.

Before his business with the Silvas (Wanderlei and Anderson) is settled, Sonnen has a tough customer in front of him in the form of ex-UFC light heavyweight titleholder Rashad Evans at UFC 167 on November 16.
