A new weight class, four victories and 16 months later, AMA Fight Club’s Charlie Brenneman is making his return to the Octagon.
“The Spaniard” got the call up from the regional scene to fight UFC newcomer Benil Dariush at UFC Fight Night 35, which is less than two weeks away (January 15). MMA Junkie first reported the bout on Thursday.
Brenneman fills in for Jason High, who had to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured appendix.
Coincidentally, Brenneman defeated High via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 21, which took place in March 2010, in his UFC debut.
After starting his UFC tenure with a solid 3-1 record, the Pennsylvania native was cut from the world’s premiere mixed martial arts organization in September 2012 after going 1-3 in his subsequent four bouts.
However, all of those bouts were contested at welterweight (170 pounds), and Brenneman is currently undefeated (4-0) at lightweight (255 pounds), scoring three submissions during that span.
His opponent, the lesser known Dariush brings an undefeated (6-0) record to the UFC, including five finishes.
The 24-year-old member of the Wand Fight Team likes to sling some leather, but has also showcased a competent submission game in his young fight career as well.
Will Brenneman’s constant pressure and ground work be too much for Dariush to handle or will be able to land some serious power shots before the fight hits the mat?
