Retired UFC welterweight Chris Lytle will be taking a desk job to serve as a replacement for embattled three-time title challenger Chael Sonnen.
A press release sent out by the UFC stated that “Lights Out” will make his debut as a broadcast analyst on FOX Sports 1 at UFC Fight Night 45 in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Wednesday.
“UFC on FOX analysts Kenny Florian, Daniel Cormier and host Karyn Bryant welcome former UFC welterweight contender Chris Lytle to the analyst desk as he makes his debut at the UFC FIGHT NIGHT WEIGH-IN on Tuesday, July 15 and works the PREFIGHT and POSTFIGHT coverage on FOX Sports 1 as well,” an except of the release says.
Lytle retired in August 2011, after scoring “Submission of the Night” and “Fight of the Night” honors for tapping out Dan Hardy with a guillotine choke.
After an incredible 54 fights inside the cage throughout a 12-year career, Lytle is remembered for being a big fan favorite do to his finish or be finished mentality.
He has the distinction of picking up 10 “Fight Night” bonuses over the course of 20 appearances inside the Octagon.
Back in May, there were rumors that Lytle was in negotiations to box Roy Jones, Jr., but it now seems apparent that deal never came to fruition.
Lytle also ran for Indiana State Senate in May 2012, and although he performed much better in the polls than expected, ended up coming in second place.
Sonnen was fired from his commentating job earlier late last month after failing a drug test for the performance-enhancing drugs Recombinant Human Erythropoietin (EPO) and human growth hormone (HGH).
