Dan Hardy Wants to Retire Original Ultimate Fighter Winner Diego Sanchez

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Dan Hardy hasn’t fought in nearly two years due to a rare heart condition, but he remains optimistic he will eventually return to the Octagon.

Furthermore, if he has his way, “The Outlaw” would like to retire one of the original Ultimate Fighter winners – Diego Sanchez.

Check out what he told MMA Junkie when asked about who he’d like to fight on a potential return.

“I’m a huge Diego fan, but for me, he is what’s wrong with mixed martial arts right now,” Hardy said.

“He is the 20th century bullheaded martial artist that walks forward and fights with their face … I think Diego represents the old school, where you just walk forward in a boxing stance and see who falls over first.”

Sanchez is one of the most notorious brawlers on the UFC roster is 4-3 in his past seven fights, but has visibly slowed down since deciding he was down fighting at welterweight in 2012.

“The Nightmare” is 2-2 inside the cage since March 2013, though his split decision victories over Takanori Gomi and most recently Ross Pearson were unanimously panned by the MMA community – more so the win over Pearson than Gomi.

As a matter of fact, a number of MMA media outlets called Sanchez’s win over “The Real Deal” the worst robber in MMA history.

Meanwhile, after losing four fights in a row between March 2010 and August 2011, Hardy unexpectedly remained part of the organization and followed up with convincing back-to-back wins over Duane Ludwig and Amir Sadollah.

In the event that Hardy can finally get medical clearance, would a grudge match with Sanchez be the right way to go for UFC matchmaker Joe Silva?
