Former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry is having a tough go as a fighter in recent memory, losing four of his past five fights between the Octagon and the kickboxing ring.
According to UFC President Dana White, “HD’s” tough times got to the point where an old training partner gave him a call asking his old boss to help intervene in the situation.
"Brock Lesnar called me and begged me to make [Barry] retire," White said at the UFC Fight Night 40 post-fight press conference on Saturday.
"He said, 'I don't consider too many people my friend and I consider Pat Barry a friend. Dana, you've got to get this guy to retire.' I said, 'Listen he's a grown man, Brock. What am I going to do?' There's only so much I can do."
White went on to say that he didn’t have a particularly personal relationship with the 34-year-old Barry, so his situation is much different from someone like Forrest Griffin or Chuck Liddell.
Lesnar and Barry were both members of the Death Clutch gym in Minnesota, which has since disbanded.
The once formidable striker retired from MMA after a TKO loss to surging prospect Soa Palelei in December, his third TKO loss in four fights.
Barry looked to return to vintage form earlier this month when he stepped in the ring for the Glory promotion, but suffered a devastating knockout loss at the hands of Zack Mwekassa.
Strictly as a professional kickboxer, Barry is just 2-4 in his past six bouts, so perhaps his best days as a fighter have come and gone.
However, the question is does Barry have the financial stability to call it a career right now if he wanted to?
