UFC President Dana White is not amused by former UFC lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz’s callout of surging welterweight contender Matt Brown.
On Wednesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight White blasted the Stockton bad boy for even stating the notion that he wanted a fight with “The Immortal.”
"No, no way in the world. That fight has not been talked about, it’s not even close, we’ve never even considered that fight. Nate Diaz did say that he was interested in that fight, but that fight doesn’t make sense,” White explained.
“He fights at 155 [pounds], has lost two of his last three fights and Brown’s on this unbelievable roll. Brown is a Welterweight and has been fighting there a long time. He deserves a top contender. Listen, if Nick Diaz wants to come out and fight Brown I’ll do that fight."
Nate Diaz is just 1-2 in his past three bouts, though maintains a respectable 4-2 mark in his past six fights and most recently scored a round 1 knockout over old foe Gray Maynard in November.
He has competed in four welterweight contests in 26 professional fights, breaking even with a 2-2 record in those fights.
Meanwhile, his older brother, Nick, lost back-to-back matchups with Carlos Condit and Georges St-Pierre before retiring in March of last year.
Nick Diaz, a former Strikeforce welterweight champ, has stated that he will return to the Octagon for a championship bout or a $500,000 fight purse: nothing else.
Brown is currently riding a seven-fight win streak (six knockouts) and awaits his next assignment after finishing Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 40 two weeks ago.
