Dana White: Jon Jones Isn’t Fighting Glover Teixeira at UFC 169

Apparently the UFC’s public relations team made a big booboo.

UFC President Dana White told media members on a conference call that despite an announcement being made just days ago, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will not defend his title against Glover Teixeira at UFC 169 in February.

"That was never, ever a done deal," White said. "That's going to be later. That was never a done deal. Our (public relations) people put it out, and they shouldn't have."

White was vague in elaborating why the bout wasn’t happening at the February 1 pay-per-view, aside from “the timing didn’t work out” and that the title clash would likely take place in March instead.

Jones, who is riding a 10-fight win streak after a “Fight of the Year” candidate against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 last month, has a great track record at New Jersey’s Prudential Center, where UFC 169 takes place.

“Bones” captured UFC gold at UFC 128 in March 2011, defeating former Pride star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in a dominant performance, becoming the youngest titleholder in company history at 23 years old.

He returned to Newark at UFC 159 this past April, destroying former two-time middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen, winning via first round TKO.

Meanwhile, Teixeira is one of the hottest Brazilian prospects in the game right now, boasting a ridiculous 20-fight win streak, including a 5-0 mark inside the Octagon.

Teixeira most recently defeated former Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28 a month ago, winning with a stoppage due to strikes in the opening frame.
